2013. Its a wrap!! Now let me give you a painting to celebrate ♥

 Hello lovely friends!
To celebrate the closing of the old year and the beginning of the new I am giving away this little elephant painting to one lucky reader. Just leave me a note in the comments below and let me know one of your intentions for 2014!
Clarity. My word for 2013
How did I go with it? At first I thought not so well.
I couldn't even really get clear on what the word meant for me.
What my intention around clarity even was.

Not a good start right?

Seems like I'm somewhat of a back to front person. I often figure out the answer long after I've completed the action...
I think its what makes intuitive painting such a perfect practice for me,
not having to make a plan but seeing the perfection in the plan after all is said and done.
Kind of fumbling my way along a LOT,
jumping in before I know how to swim and then figuring out later how exactly I managed to not drown!
canvases are painted and then the concept comes to me once they are finished
titles and meaning float in from the ether unorchestrated by me,
yet filtered through my lens of perception
 and making perfect sense...

I'll probably have some profound realisation around the personal meaning of clarity in 2013 at some point in the unknown future......

but for now

looking back here is what clarity means to me this year

Clarity around TRUST and knowing that all is right and in its perfect place.

Clarity around family and LOVE and how much I have to be grateful for in my close relationships.
and how much I miss them when I am away ♥

Clarity around the kind of teacher and person I want to be and a new understanding of what I'm here to share.

Clarity around surrendering to the bigger picture, being flexible and OPEN to the wonder of each moment.......

 ........like this morning, after I had already chosen my word for 2014 complete with a catchy slogan;

Balance~ move more, consume less

and then into my inbox appears a link to an article titled

(the Universe is sometimes subtle and sometimes knocks you across the head)

and then from a friend on FB I follow another link to this article about super sensitive souls which totally rang true!

and I said to myself "hello Universe! What are you trying to tell me here?"
My eyes skimmed down the article and landed on the following words

“Aliveness is energy. It’s the juice, the vitality, and the passion that wakes up our cells every morning. It’s what makes us want to dance. It’s the energy that moves a relationship from the status quo to something grander and much more expansive, something that makes our hearts beat faster, our minds and our eyes open wider, than ever before. Everything is of interest to a person who is truly alive, whether it’s a challenge, a loving moment, a bucket of grief, or a glimpse of beauty.” ~ Daphne Rose Kingma
and just like that, I knew my word for 2014 had changed. Of course balance is still important and I am totally going to be working on the whole "move more, consume less" thing, but come on.....doesn't this sound so much sexier, so much more loaded with sizzling possibility?

Aliveness!!

What an awesome word that is!
I claim it, embrace it and it feels so right for where I stand right now
I also happily share it if it resonates for any of you beautiful souls.
Lets radiate our aliveness together and move through the world with passion and vitality!

I wish you all the happiest of New Years and in the coming months may your world be filled with love, abundance in all good things and joy....

from my heart to yours here are a few meaningful events from my world in 2013

Elephants came through loud and clear in my paintings, trumpeting their presence to my soul....

then when these paintings started to sell on Facebook I experienced a whole new paradigm shift around the possibilities of selling art online and started shipping large paintings out across the world to people who had fallen in love with the images on my timeline.....
Elephant's medicine brings strength, confidence, connection to ancient wisdom, the pushing aside of obstacles and barriers,  patience, opportunities to learn, commitment, gentleness, better communication in relationships, intelligence, compassion and discernment.

I am grateful for this wonderful gift ♥

I got really, really brave and followed through on my desire to write a book, then suffered through several months of self doubt and feelings of unworthiness until I finally got my &*^% together (thank you Orly ♥)  and just began to write from the heart.

Having awesome contributors like Orly Avineri, Judy Wise, Jesse Reno, Roxanne Evans Stout, Juliette Crane, e"Layne Koenigsberg, Louise Gale, Jess Green, Mary Beth Shaw, Seth Apter, Kecia Deveney, Peter Perez, Jessica Brogan, Lisa Sonora Beam, Laurie Mika and Erin Faith Allen inspired me immensely. Watching their beautiful projects and thoughts appear in my inbox gave me a sense of direction and a foundation to build on during the days I felt like I was floundering...

and most of all I am grateful for my wonderful editor and friend Tonia Jenny, without whom I would never have got my head around the whole process...in the countdown to finishing the book whilst on the road for nine weeks across the U.S.A I tallied up more than 300 book related emails to this sweet gal!

I'll have you know that writing a book can be  a tough job when you're on the road. I had to put up with all kinds of difficult situations like this awful makeshift office at the home of my sweet Florida hosts e'Layne and Lora....How I ever got through it I don't know! ;p

and just in case you havent heard me shout it from the rooftops my book will be out July 2014 but you can preorder now on Amazon and Book Depository for free worldwide shipping! Woohoo!

I taught a lot!!!

in fact I hadn't counted until just now and was surprised to find that I taught 21 workshops throughout the year all over Australia and the U.S!

from Wisconsin to Connecticut, California to Florida, Austin to Albuquerque, NZ, Victoria, NSW and Qld.....
meeting awesome people EVERYWHERE I went!

No surprise then that I feel myself stepping into the role with a much greater sense of not only what my students need but how best to give it to them...what a beautiful, beautiful gift! ♥

I also got to see so many new amazing places in my travels

 Bay of Plenty, NZ
 Albuquerque, NM
beautiful Santa Fe are just a few....

There is no way I could mention everyone whose lives have touched mine this year in profound ways but I have truly felt my heart open, witnessed miracles and felt huge shifts happen for many.

Some of these pics were taken by my talented and super dooper students but I've lost track, so thank you and feel free to let me know if you wanna claim one for credit :)

What a blessing that I get to do this in the world

Grateful, grateful, grateful x infinity ♥

news from our casa de love
I knew that Marco had well and truly mellowed like a fine wine when he gave in to the girls request to put up a pole in our living room to practice their pole dancing skills!

Both of them have become uber fit from this exercise and we all get a kick out of friends that come to visit exclaiming "Is that a stripper pole in your living room!"
Time for a new perspective people! :))

I am over the moon excited that my love has opened a new biz doing what he loves and now gets to hang out at the beach and call it work!

“Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”
― Dr. Seuss
We lost this little(big) boy when he used up the last of his nine lives. RIP Gingy ♥

2013 gave me the opportunity to see many family members who live far way, my mum and siblings in Cairns, cousins, aunties and uncles all over. My sisters and their sweet families who came to visit from Cairns and Darwin and also the opportunity to hang out with my biological father and get to know each other a little more. This visit to the Sunshine Coast I was over the moon to meet my 90 year old grandmother for the first time. How cool is that? :)

In some ways it feels like I've lived ten years in one during 2013 so I hope I haven't missed anyone important. Please know that you are all in my memory and my heart.

Cheers to a wonderful year and to the one yet to come. May it be filled with promise of wonder, the spirit of the miraculous and the power of love ♥

Be sure to leave a comment and I will draw the winner of the little ellie in about a week! :)

(a little message I brought home with me from Austin, Texas)

lots of love Tracy ♥♥♥

My intention for 2014 is to open a creative studio where people can come and learn to connect with their creative spirit. I hope to reach as many people as possible so that they will learn how to exercise the right side of their brain and become more creatively fit. :0)

To trust myself and believe in my goals and try not to focus to much on what my future may be, instead of what I'm doing now. That's a big one.

So happy I was able to have met you, taking your class was secondary ;)

I think my word will be "present". It's hard to narrow it down to one word. I've found myself either hanging on to the past, or concerned with the future, and I really want to live each day in the "present" and enjoy each and every moment without spending my time reliving the past or looking too forward in the future. Now is the time!

Wow, what a year! Funny this morning I decided my word was "clear" for 2014. After reading your post I know I will personally meet you! For 2014 I will just wait for your book, hopefully the online art therapy and save for as 2015 retreat.

Happy New Year to you and your family too! Taking your class was so inspiring for me that my intention foe 2014 is to take time each day for my art, it doesn't matter if it's only 15 minutes I will make time each day to play because I can do that, commit to something one day at a time. By breaking it down I know it won't be so intimidating. I am also certain that by doing this I will end up devoting more and more time, like any new habit it needs time to take root, once it does I know it will grow! Thank you for your inspiration and teaching!

Loved seeing all your pictures and all that you did in 2013. I so enjoyed being in your WI workshop and meeting you. I got a lot out of that workshop and loved meeting some new art friends. I also got to see some old friends again. My word for 2014 is MOTIVATION. There are so many things that I want to do but never seem to have enough time to get around to doing. I am going to make the time. Many blessings to you and your family for a wonderful New Year.

Tracy. You are one of those beautiful souls who shines from within. I am grateful to you in my world. You bring life changing energy to my life. My word for 2013 was SHINE. I focused on shining love to others and myself. I feel like I have just started and will continue to shine in the new year 2014.
I adore and love you girlie pants.

Wow, you and all of your students did such beautiful work~ seriously I love it all! You are a dynamo girlio!
My word for 2013 was greatness and funny thing is I learned humility. Working on art with the children from Uganda taught me more than ever what really matters in life is not my own greatness but the greatness of our Lord. How helping others to become empowered through Christ's love is where I need to be. Empowering them empowers me truthfully, I have never felt more strongly called to a greater purpose.
So this year my word is "Beginning", I thought I was too old to be a missionary , too weak, to unworthy, but God is showing me a new beginning. None of us are too old or too weak, or too unworthy through His love. I am ready for my new beginning!!!
Would love to win that elephant too! Hugs, Sanna

2013 was "my year of fun", boy was it fun, I had two grand babies a girl and then two weeks later a boy! But not only that! I learnt so much about myself through several painting courses and meditation and a visiual quest, so much about me.
2014 is "continuing the flow" and up came all these "E" words... Experiment, explore, excitement, evolve was my favourite... I'm all for learning and evolving into the "Me" I am meant to be, I am redefining who I am and. I'm loving it.

Your work radiates happiness and that's why I follow you. I have not painted since we immigrated 10 years ago so 2014 will be a good place to start. Aliveness is the perfect mantra for the year ahead as life is for the living. My word will be "me" , not for self indulgence but inner peace. All of the best for 2014 !

Wow, what an amazing year you've had!
My intention for the coming year is to live life to the fullest. I'm adopting ACTION as my one little word for 2014, and hope to live and breath it. I want to be a more active participant in my life, to truly embrace it all, and starting living a life of I WILL, rather than I WISH.
I hope you have another stellar year ahead of you Tracey!

I love your paintings and your use of color! Your art radiates such vibrancy, and aliveness! Every painting of yours that I saw on the Magically Mixed Art Community Facebook page radiated with it! 2013 has been a turbulent, chaotic year for me, with my husband's many health challenges that became the focus of my life. I lost myself and my art for awhile. So my word for 2014 is Hope. Hope in finding my way back to myself, hope for my husband and my family to meet these new challenges and continue to grow into the new dynamics. With Hope, and faith, I can trust I will find my way.

My word for 2014 is Growth. My intention for the upcoming year is to grow creatively, spiritually, intellectually, personally, mentally and emotionally. I want to make big strides into growing into the best me I can possibly be. And I know by working on my art and writing every day, I can do it. Even if on some days all I draw is a circle, and all I write is one word, there will still be growth, because I will have followed through and done something positive.

Sharon Grimley said...

It was hard to distill my hopes for 2014 into one word, but today I think I decide the word is "Reinvent". I chose the verb, not the noun, because a verb requires action! Really looking forward to growing and being in the coming year, and seeing some of you at Sacred Marks Bali! xx

2013 has been a long difficult year for me personally, which made my art suffer. But it was that same bit of flame of art in my heart that helped keep me going in 2013, even when I didn't want to. I went places and took classes and met new friends. They don't know how much they helped me. and I'm so glad others nudged me to keep going. 2014 will be a new beginning for me. 1 word that has spoken to me besides the phrase "Now What?" has been "Renew". Your class in Wisconsin was amazing and I hope to take another class with you in 2015. I hope to see many of my WI classmates again. Hugs & Tiaras!!! bj

I don't have a word yet for the year. Last year was "transition" as I am getting reacquainted with that artist inside me. Blessings for a good year, Tracy.

So beautiful to share in your journey through 2013 Tracy. You are a treasure. My intentions for 2014 is transformation, I have been plagued with an undiagnosed illness for the last 6 months so that is the first thing I was to transform, but I have a few others as well. Out with the old unhelpful mindsets and in with the new. Brightest Blessings for you and your family in the new year. xxxx

My words for 2014 are "Live Now" and "Balance" --- being a typical controlled Virgo I find it hard not be always be thinking of the future and consequently I miss out on the present which these days is flying by and leaving me behind.
The Balance is a balance between my day job and my artwork -- at my age I will this year allow myself the time to do what I love most now and that is paint, paint and paint some more.

Clarity and aliveness are fantastic words! I'm currently working on setting my intentions but I do have a few words that I will work with throughout 2014. Courageous and peaceful. Courageous in all my creative and business endeavours which will guide me into growing an expanding and choosing suitable mentors. Peaceful by adding yoga and meditation practice to my self-care practice which will help me quell fears and keep a peaceful mind. Happy New Year Tracy! I can't wait to see your book xo

Your words are so beautiful, Tracy, as much as your work. Thank you for all inspiration you give to the World.
My word is FREEDOM. It has been my highest value always. Coming from the country that has been in a war, for many years, Bosnia, that is not unusual. But I am thinking of the word freedom in all it's depth. Freedom to be who I am and freedom to do what I love.
In 2013 I have learned to trust my craving to create and to stop being intimidated and love my work for what it is. For that I have to thank Mermaid Circus workshop and Jane's and Teesha's teachings.
In 2014 I will be free completely and be creator of my own time (since that seems to be the biggest obstacle). I will create, and create, and create... I am going to Paris with Jane and amazing group of people (FREEDOM). First time I'm doing something like that. And without my family. ONLY "ME" TIME. And also, this year I am planning to start my own work (FREEDOM from 45+ hours/week going to work) and that includes teaching and inspiring others, adults and kids.
I wish you all amazing 2014 and that all your sugar plum wishes come true, and then more.
Love to all.

Tracy, our meeting in Wisconsin was so amazing and wonderful!!! I met the most fantastic new friends, and learned sooo much from your class! We learned not only how to paint MoJo style but how to
Put things in perspective as far as REAL LIFE goes! There was a hum in the air that continued way after the class ended, and that shows you that you touched more than our canvas's .. lovely painting and it was such a pleasure to meet you at one of those 21 (WOW!) workshops this year! my word hasn't found me yet but right intention, health improvement, and teaching are but some of my intentions for the new year and i've shed a lot in the last twelve months - i'm so ready to embrace the following twelve <3

Dear Tracy!
I treasure our brief time together this year and sharing a moment of tender synchronicity. You were the original reason I drove myself to Petaluma, and your humility and genuineness, in addition to your bad-ass technique and teaching style, confirmed my instinct that I needed to be there. Thanks for what you bring into the world!

As for a 2014 word, I will endeavor to 'deepen' ... still deciphering and discovering what all that encompasses ... a little intimidated by it, so I trust it must be right.

Hope our paths will cross again soon! Sending love! ~consu

I don't like to make resolutions or pin myself down to one word. But I do have to say I am so grateful for your class coming to Austin. I know I was a quiet one but being able to work and meet you meant so very much to me. I feel like it was a stepping stone ( a HUGE stepping stone) in my endeavors to conquer painting! I can't wait to meet my canvases each day!!!

Hi Tracy,
I love your one word concept! I just signed up for Ali's class myself. I think my word for the year will be Inspired! I'm choosing an action word because by the end of the year I want to have inspired as many people as possible and I want to take art adventures that inspire. I Hope you thrive in your new year!

Lots of love,

hi artful goddess,
first and foremost, i would like to extend my gratitude to you for sharing what Consu rightfully titled "bad-ass technique and teaching style" Taking your workshop has allowed me to get reacquainted with my brushes and paints thus rekindled my passion for my first love-painting! i am so glad to have made it to the last class of your 2013 U.S workshops. even with it being one day class and coupled with the rush, you have impacted my painting tremendously and allow me to regain my painting mojo, so i say thank you again and i look forward to seeing you in santa ana or palm spring in 2015!!!

my word for 2014 is BLOOM which is defined as-- "A condition or time of vigor, freshness, and beauty; prime" for now, but it might change...who knows!!!

namaste

p.s. heck yeah, i will be tickled to win the "gentle giant"

For 2014 my focus will be my health and kicking my art up a notch or two. I want to regain the stamina I lost in 2013 due to health problems and I want to put my art out to the world again and watch it grow.

WOW! Quite some year for you, right? Thank you so much for such a detailed report!

In 2014, I want to move more. I walked on my treadmill about twice a week at the end of 2013, and I want to up that to at least 4 times a week in 2014. I would love to lose weight, but more importantly, I want to be healthy. What a generous give-away. Thanks for the chance to win some of your art. I can't wait 'til your book comes out.

Hi Tracy!!! My intention is to paint and draw A LOT MORE and continue to nurture my relationship with my husband and my kids and pets and a few kindreds, and pretty much do A LOT LESS of everything else. Such as worrying, procrastinating, cleaning, gardening, waiting, wasting time, listening to noise, eating, obsessing, doubting, fixing and not living in the present moment. I want to travel light and lean, with self-awareness, energy, grace and kindness.

Stacy de la Rosa said...

One of the highlights of my 2013 was meeting you. Your elephant paintings make me teary. My intention for 2014 is to get some of your art up on my walls. xo

Happy New Year Tracy!! My 2014 intention word was a bit elusive and went from "free" to "lighthearted" to preverbal stuck mode. I then asked my husband Trent, and in a split second he said "Playful". He is so right, "playful" gets me to lighthearted and free. So "Playful" it is!!! It's going to be a fun year!!! xoxo

Happy New Year! xxoo

So happy I got to take your class on Petaluma. It was truly wonderful (although having to cut the picture off the frame to fly it home was a bit eek).
My intention for 2014 is to walk my own path. I am currently working out my notice period in my day job - I am excited and terrified in equal measure but so happy that I won't one say look back and say to myself 'what if'.

My word for 2014 is True - be true to who I am, stop hiding my light, be brave enough to show my true self, and don't settle for a life that isn't truly me.

TinaStina said...

This was a tricky one. One intention for 2014? Well... I think it must be "perseverance". To go on with what I'm doing, to focus and not give up!

To be persistant and believe in what I'm doing, not listening to my inner negative voice saying I'm not good enough or that everyone is much better than me.

I LOVE your elephant and the one winning it will be a lucky, lucky person!

Hug!
Tina

I will have monthly guiding words/phrases as well as this (for example January is all about Discovery) but my theme for this year found me a couple of months ago and it is Wild! In my mind, it is 'Wild and Free'.
It means so very many different things. First of all I am in an FB bookclub and we are about to kick off by reading 'Women Who Run With The Wolves' - that seems a very apt way to start the year!
And to me it means allowing my more natural self to come through more and more. Back to nature (I would love to see myself wearing feathers and beads in my hair for example and peculiar/kooky clothing!) and so Wild will mean physically being in nature more.
Also it means giving myself permission - or rather, no permission is needed! - If my heart wants it, I go for it! I honour my wild self.
I have been so inhibited and... small? this past couple of years, and I am now in a phase of expansion, creating art more regularly, getting the flow going, dreaming big.
Last year I realised 'I am home' i.e. my home is me - this body - and I don't need a particular kind of roof over my head to feel settled, stable, myself. So Wild and free also means roaming this year. I hope to travel and walk and climb and venture and visit and explore...
OK, and so much mor, but I've written enough already!!
My Sanctuary is crying out for that darling elephant :o)

I always create what I call Infusion Words for the year. This year my words are: Choose, Believe and Play & Share. The one that is emerging the stronger is Choose for an overall theme. I've had lots of great things happen in my life & things got tough a couple years ago. I've been shifting since then and there's a piece left (related to your theme of Aliveness) that is coming up when I come back to "choose".

Thanks for your inspiring artwork! I'm glad I found you & look forward to seeing your book!

Lisa said...

My word I have chosen is Balance .. In 2013 I spent a lot of time building my new business and hardly any time doing my art. Although I love what I have created in my business, life just wasn't the same without some creativity featuring in it! Determined to turn that around this year and get back to a good balance of work/play.

BTW, I preordered your book, cannot wait till it arrives at my door step!

We are creating our lives. Thank you. This year I am giving myself the gift of "choice". I have believed certain things about myself which may not be relevant or true anymore. First off I would like to say superb blog! I had a quick question which I'd
like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to find
out how you center yourself and clear your mind prior to writing.
I've had a hard time clearing my mind in getting my thoughts
out there. I do take pleasure in writing but it just seems
like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually wasted just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any suggestions or hints? Appreciate it!
