Deep Listening

In my Sacred Marks workshops I love to share the Aboriginal concept of Dadirri ~Deep Listening. Aboriginal writer Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr-Baumann describes deep listening as follows: “NGANGIKURUNGKURR means ‘Deep Water Sounds’. Ngangikurungkurr is the name of my tribe. The word can be broken up into three parts: Ngangi means word or sound, Kuri means water, and kurr means deep. So the name of my people means ‘the Deep Water Sounds’ or ‘Sounds of the Deep’. Miriam-Rose speaks of: “a special quality of my people. I believe it is the most important. It is our most unique gift. It is perhaps the greatest gift we can give to our fellow Australians. In our language this quality is called dadirri. It is inner, deep listening and quiet, still awareness. Dadirri recognises the deep spring that is inside us. We call on it and it calls to us. This is the gift that Australia is thirsting for. It is something like what you call ‘co...

Day 11~Thirty days of gratitude

One of the things I LOVE so much during my workshops is the element of surprise, the messages our creativity brings to us! The dialogue we can have with our work...  I notice my students getting so caught up in the "striving" and so I always take time to walk around and photograph small cropped areas of their works in progress....  there is so much beauty available to us in every single moment....  if only we can stop .....  for long enough to see it ... synchronicity is everywhere,  like in the fact that as I am writing this I randomly arrived at this beautiful crop while I was writing those words.... you see? and oh my!  I just noticed the outstretched hand in the image above this urging us to stop and notice♥  there is joy and love inherent in the process...the process of creating, the process of living....  there in every moment for us to recognise it before it gets covered up by the next...

Thirty days of gratitude~Day 5~Dream BIG ♥

Tracy Verdugo. 2013. I fly in Rainbows of Imperfection. So grateful for dreams..... and even more so for the changes in my own thinking over the past few years  that have allowed me not only to dream BIGGER but   to move forward ( mostly confidently)  to take action (at times stumbling and with no clue) to ask questions( soooo many wonderful mentors out there!) and to focus on love and see the world with wide eyed wonder! (what you focus on always magnifies ♥) It has been just over a year since I began this adventure.  Can you believe it?  One year since I decided to stop swimming in circles around my very comfortable fishbowl and jump out into the wide, blue ocean! a year of connecting with beautiful like-minded creatives around the world   a year of teaching Paint Mojo, discovering what works and what doesnt... being flexible and open to change and realizing that this is actually what I am teaching!...

Have I mentioned that consistency is not my middle name?

Good morning beautiful friends and fellow creative seekers! Thank you to all of those who followed faithfully along during my thirty days of blog lovin' in May. I am sure I have mentioned to you before that consistency is definitely NOT my middle name so it should come as no surprise that I went from blogging every day in a month to not blogging at all the entire month of June! Don't be fooled into thinking that this means nothing has been happening in my world though.... its full steam ahead here as usual and I promise I will fill you in on a wonderful month over the coming weeks. Here are a few of the highlights of the month~   12 days in the beautiful Mornington peninsula, Victoria teaching two Paint Mojo workshops and staying with the beautiful Baker family ♥ Thank you Liza, Michael, Tully and Flynn~ I feel like I have gained even more new family :)  Students creating "feeling" paintings in response to a poem.  My demo in progress.....
