Thirty day gratitude check in-Day 3

“All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.”

~Francis of Assisi

Today I am grateful for light in all of it's incarnations.
The light of a new day.

The light that illuminates what is already beautiful to new heights of gorgeousness

the light that stops us in our tracks and shows us things to make us smile

The light that gives us strength when the darkness looms larger

The light that makes us catch our breath and see the world with new eyes

and the light which makes us recognise that not only is it all around us but emanates from within us too if we allow ourselves to see it.

Own your light
stand in your light
emanate that light
to everyone you meet
so that they can own and share their own
each one of us passing the torch
of an unextinguishable flame of love.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Thirty Day Gratitude Check in-Day 2

Good morning sunshines!!!
I hope your world is looking shiny today and if it's not I hope this short post might help to shift your perspective just a little....
(or a lot!)

You see I've been feeling a little flat lately, not depressed but definitely flat.
It kind of feels like I spent a lot of last year on auto pilot.

The initial diagnosis while on my U.S tour, the stress of finishing my workshops with uncertainty about what I was facing, the return home and subsequent round of appointments, tests, treatment.
Getting through what I needed to do to get well, giving myself time to pause, rest and reflect.

But somewhere in there I started to feel unhappy and anxious about losing the momentum I had worked so hard to build up over the past 5 years.

I began to doubt myself, to dwell on thoughts that didn't serve me, staying up later than I should, spending more time on social media than I needed to, drinking the extra glass of wine more often than I should, reflecting on the sad aspects of our empty nest instead of the joy of knowing our girls are out in the world doing amazing things.
Losing my way a little.

It's a slippery path right?

and it's so easy to keep sliding on down once you've begun.

and so, this challenge is for all of us who know what it's like to slip away from joy for a while.

I know with absolute certainty that when you focus on the things that bring you joy, your joy will increase.
The increments might be small but it WILL happen.

Being with the new day as it begins is one thing that brings me a lot of joy and a great sense of peace, so this morning, for the second day in a row, I woke before the sunrise and meditated for just a few moments, distracted by the gorgeous colors in the sky outside.

Throwing on some clothes I walked the block to the beach and who should be sitting on the fence of the nearby caravan park but my kookaburra friend with another reminder to look for the joy!

At the top of the stairs down to the sand I took a deep breath

Took in the miracle, the wonder and the certainty of another new day

With just a passing flock of pelicans and a lone nearby seagull for company

I decided to stay in a state of awe and wonder for as long as I could this day

Wishing you all a beautiful day!
I'd love to know what brings you joy in the comments below

Lots of love Tracy

ps I just came across this old pic of Mimi when she was a kitten and I've been sitting here for ten minutes trying to make up some wise anecdote to go with it but you know what?

I think it's enough for us all to just soak up her cuteness and smile. That is all :)

Thirty day gratitude check in. Day one.

“Hello, sun in my face. Hello you who made the morning and spread it over the fields...Watch, now, how I start the day in happiness, in kindness.”

Hello, hello my beautiful creative friends and seekers!!

I've missed you!

Have you missed me?

It seems like eons since I used to check in regularly here and I've been feeling the call to recommit to this space, to our shared experience, to our community of curious wonderment.

Most of you know that last year was a big one for me,
and that this year I am taking things a little easier,
spending time taking more care of myself,
so that I can continue to do the work I value so much in the world,
taking care of the creative souls of those whose paths intertwine with mine.

For those of you who may have missed my 2016 adventures it was definitely a doozy and I am soooooo grateful to be back on the path to wellness.

Here's a little recap to get you up to date!

I truly believe that there is no better way to walk through this world than from a place of gratitude. Being centred in this space opens up everything GOOD so what better place to begin to blog again than with thanks for the abundance of beauty, love and kindness in this world.

Just yesterday these two beautiful kookaburras flew into the Paperbark tree in our backyard and serenaded me with the joyful sound of their raucous laughter.

Looking up Kookaburra symbolism I found the following words, some of which resonated deeply.
Maybe they will for you too?

"Pay attention to opportunities around you, and listen to nature and to the world around you, you may find that you are being given some important messages at this time.

The kookaburra encourages us to use laughter as a form of healing. Laughter can be a positive force for the body, even when we force it and we don't really 'feel' it. Laughter between people is a way that reinforces bonding and helps us to enjoy life even when things are very tough. Look at how much you laugh every day, chances are if kookaburra has flown into your life you could stand to laugh a little more. It is time to turn your hurt into happiness, and the power of laughter is a great road to doing just that.

Kookaburra draws our attention to family, and our family relationships. Often kookaburra energy suggests that family connections are important in our lives at this time, either because of rivalry (particularly amongst siblings) or because we are looking at our role within the family unit. Ask yourself what your responsibilities are to your family, and what their responsibilities are to you. If you feel you are not being honoured or respected enough by your blood relations, ask yourself if you have given them the honour and respect you feel you deserve.

Kookaburra has a very powerful healing energy, and its presence in a reading or in your life can indicate a time when profound healing is occurring. This healing is not just happening to you, but to people around you, and creates a more healthful ripple effect that creates positive changes to come. Kookaburra can indicate that the querent has reached the end of a difficult journey, and new healthful growth has already begun. "

So, for the next thirty days I am committing to check in daily and record my gratitude here in this space of Heartful Musings.

I would love it if you joined me. Just tag #tracyverdugogratitudechallenge on Instagram and FB if you feel inclined to jump on the "thank you" train.

Today I am overwhelmingly grateful for this beautiful place we call home~ Jervis Bay.
Rising early I sipped on my coffee and then, just after sunrise, walked the short distance to the beach, crossing Moona Moona Creek.
Everything was still, not a ripple on the water, a lone campervan across the way had found the perfect place to sleep.

A short walk and I am on the beach. The rain has washed the tannins into the bay and the water is chocolate grey rather than its usual turquoise blue.

I walk for an hour listening to an Abundant Artist Podcast discussion called "Are Women Worse at Self Promotion than Men"
It makes for interesting listening and I'm grateful for those who collate and share their wisdom so freely, helping us all to grow and learn.

On the way home the mood of Moona Moona has changed a little.
Light breaks through the clouds, reflecting in the dark waters, and tiny fish dance along the surface.
I breathe it all in, grateful for this new day, this walk, these legs, this breath, this light, this chance to share it all with you.

Grateful times infinity and looking forward to being here with you for the next thirty days.

Lots of love
Tracy xoxox
